THE IMPERFECT DIVISION is the chosen theme for the 2018 edition, a perspective to debate about a current issue: the relationship between inequalities and democracy. Global socio-economic inequalities are growing while wealth is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few. The growing social gap is leading large parts of the European population to identify themselves with populism and totalitarism forms, thus weakening the social stability of democratic systems. Facing the problems of our time, the Social Cohesion Days Festival 2018 is a necessary opportunity to deepening the social inequality issues, with the aim of rebuilding from the bottom, through thoughts, experiences and actions, the possibility of a real collective participation, both global and local, to the “public thing”. Reducing gaps, promoting dialogue, understanding and valuing differences are fundamental conditions for imagining a future for democratic systems.
